Advantages Gained with the Renovation Made in the Cevahir Shopping Mall Pump Systems!

Cevahir Shopping and Entertainment Center opened its doors to visitors on October 15, 2005 as one of Europe's and the world's largest and leading shopping and entertainment centers.British St. Martins Property company that operates Istanbul Cevahir offers its visitors a perfect shopping experience with its nearly 300 stores spread over 6 floors.  

Our Customer's Request 

Johnson Controls (responsible for the technical operation and management of Cevahir Mall) contacted Masdaf to calculate the energy saving rates, maintenance costs and the advantages of new investments for the pump systems that have been in use for more than 10 years.  

Reporting  

Technical teams of Masdaf and Kocaeli Chamber of Mechanical Engineers determined the operating points of existing pumps by on site measurement with ultrasonic flowmeters. 

The report shared with Mall management mentioned that "If the pump systems of the Shopping Center are renewed, more than 700,000 kWh, per year will be saved and the system will pay for itself in as little as 5 years". Additionally differences were identified between real-time instantaneous operating measurements and the design capacities of the pumps. These differences increased both pump system operating costs and maintenance costs due to heating and cavitation in the motors. During measurements it was observed that five 75 kW pumps designed to operate at 4 bar with 250 m³/h flow rate operated at 2.5 bar with 400 m³/h flow rate. Pumps operating at maximum flow caused thermal detonation due to overheating and subsequently, engine burning. It was stated that this problem would disappear if the new pumps were chosen to operate at 2.5 bar with 400 m³/h flow rate.  With the new pumps selected in accordance with the needs of the system, a maintenance cost advantage of close to 70% would be obtained. 

Result  

Masdaf's report including the savings to be provided by the shopping center in case of renovation was welcomed by Mall management and the renovation decision was made.  

Within the project scope the renovation operations in Cevahir Shopping Center  

carried out by the authorized service of Masdaf, Kardeşler Teknik, during the night hours when the shopping mall was closed. Within the project scope;

Five NM 200-400 55 kW 1450 d/d pump and frequency control panels,

Three NM 200-400 75 kW 1450 d/d cooling tower pumps and frequency control panels,

Twenty-seven INM series pumps and frequency control panels 

Thirty-two Enduro series submerged pump all control panels were replaced. Surrounding elements such as valves compensator connected to the pumps and the ground base where the pumps would be installed were renewed. New pumps were installed and put into operation. 

The system has been running smoothly since the change in 2015. The company has benefited from both energy and maintenance costs with the Masdaf efficient pump technologies.
