40% of the world's population is in danger of lack of water, due to global warming, increasing world population, mismanaging technologies of water resources and unconscious water use. In the fight against the water crisis, it is vital to choose and use the pump technologies that give life to water correctly.
Vahdettin YIRTMAÇ, General Manager of Masdaf, the leading brand in the pump sector, made statements about the methods and "smart water solutions" that will ensure the effective and efficient use of water resources in all areas from buildings to industries, from local governments to the agricultural sector.
40% of the world's population is in danger of dehydration due to climate change. According to a report by the "World Institute for Natural Resources” (WRI), Turkey ranks 32nd among the countries suffering from water shortages. We are considered as a “water scarce" country with a water volume of 1,519 m³ per capita. Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) predicts that the population of Turkey will reach 100 million in 2030. In this case, the amount of water per capita is expected to be 1.120 m³/year. In short, with our increasing population and decreasing water reserves, we are on our way to becoming a “water-poor" country.
Stating the importance of pump technologies in the fight against the climate crisis, Masdaf General Manager Vahdettin YIRTMAÇ stated that smart pump technologies for sustainable life can prevent energy and water waste in buildings and businesses. YIRTMAÇ continued: “Raw water transfer and distribution carried out with pump technologies, effective and efficient management of wastewater generated after use are vital for the ecosystem and therefore for our future. Because we know that 22 percent of the energy consumed by electric motors in the world is consumed by pumps. Therefore, in order to save energy consumed in buildings and industrial facilities, it is necessary to make the right pump selection and to ensure that the system operates at high efficiency by performing periodic maintenance of the existing pumps.
Pressure losses occur in the pumps due to the fact that the pumps used in heating and cooling systems, domestic water and treatment processes are not selected according to the need or are selected at high capacities. This causes more energy consumption in the system than necessary. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the nominal load value of the pump correctly and make the selections accordingly.
"We prevent seepage loss”
As Masdaf, we play an active role in the fight against the water crisis that threatens our lives with our smart pump technologies that manage water. In particular, we are taking steps to prevent the global water crisis with the "smart water conditioning systems" we have developed for housing, industries, hospitals and schools. We prevent water loss and leakage with our smart pump technologies that use energy efficiently. We recommend the renewal of pumps with a service life exceeding 10 years. Because it is possible to save both water and energy in houses and businesses after renovation. In particular, we measure that the energy consumption of pump technologies decreases by up to 80 percent.
Correct pressurization of water is important
We can say that another parameter that is very important in ensuring system efficiency as well as “smart pump technologies" is "pipes” used in the city network. If these pipes are old and worn, problems such as explosion or puncture can occur. Another reason for the burst or puncture in the pipes is the high pressure in the pumps placed at the outlet points of the network in order to compensate for the losses in the long pipelines. What is important here is both the control and renovation of infrastructure systems and the correct pressurization with smart pump technologies. Because exposing the system to too much pressure increases the amount of water loss in the smallest leak.
Local authorities should pressure the to make it available for use of the buildings
Local authorities need to keep the water pressurized enough to bring it to the water tanks in the building. Afterwards, we recommend building management to support the effective use of both water and energy by pressurizing water as much as the building needs. Although water reserves have been mandatory for domestic water in new buildings for the last 10 years, there are still many buildings that do not have reservoirs for water reserves and hydrophores to compress water. The ones who will have the most difficulties in the upcoming water crisis will be those living in such buildings.
It's also a waste of water wait for water to be hot
Due to our habits in our homes and workplaces, we inadvertently misuse energy and water resources. Especially in winter, 2 or 3 litres of cold water is wasted while waiting for hot water to flow from the tap. This problem is also due to the long pipeline distance or the lack of use of the correct circulation pump. By providing accurate pressurization with an intelligent pump technology, it is possible to save energy and prevent waste of water resources by supplying hot water within a few seconds.
“We should also show sensitivity to individual water consumption”
In order to use water resources efficiently, we need to show sensitivity to individual consumption as well as pump technologies that manage water. For example; by reducing water consumption in the shower, turning off the faucet while brushing or shaving our teeth, not operating the dishwashers and washing machines before they are full, we can take simple ;but important measures. As a more macro measure, we can treat these waters we spend in daily consumption with "gray water recovery systems" and use them again for garden irrigation and toilets.
“We still do not use professional irrigation systems in agricultural irrigation”
Another waste of water is found in agricultural irrigation because we still do not use professional irrigation systems. The old system of irrigation, called saline irrigation, causes evaporation of water that is exposed to channels on the road. We also waste water for reasons such as excessive irrigation, which is inefficient. Therefore, in agriculture, professional "drip irrigation" methods should be disseminated as soon as possible and incentives in this regard should be increased. These technological irrigation methods will both save energy and water resources and increase agricultural efficiency. As Masdaf, we also play an active role in the protection of energy and water resources with our efficient pump and hydrophore technologies used in the pressurization of water in drip irrigation systems.”
